Is There A Home Remedy For Acne?

Acne is the most common skin disorder in the United States. Somewhere between 40 and 50 million Americans suffer from acne and nearly 85 percent of Americans have acne at some point during their lives. Most occurs on the face, chest, and back. Many people are self conscious about their acne because it appears in such prominent places. If you suffer from acne and don't want to use chemical solutions, home remedies can be a great option. A baking soda exfoliant reduces breakouts and inflammation and you can clear up acne and balance the skin’s pH with apple cider vinegar. Coconut oil and tea tree oil combat acne with antibacterial properties. Also, you can use honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg as an acne spot treatment.

A baking soda exfoliant reduces breakouts and inflammation

Baking soda reduces breakouts and inflammation while exfoliating the skin and removing dead skin cells. This home remedy is great for getting rid of existing acne as well as clearing up old scars and acne marks. Mix three teaspoons of baking soda with just enough warm water to make a paste. You can apply this home remedy to your face, chest, or back. Leave the paste on your skin anywhere from 10 minutes to overnight.

Clear up acne and balance the skin’s pH with apple cider vinegar

Raw and unfiltered apple cider vinegar exfoliates acids to clear up acne and balance the skin's pH. If you are using this home remedy alongside a facial oil, it will also help the oil to absorb quickly and evenly. Mix two parts alcohol-free witch hazel with one part raw apple cider vinegar. You can also dilute three teaspoons of this home remedy with one quarter cup water.

Dry or oily skin

One of the most common problems is dry or oily skin. The skin is the largest organ in the body and has its own need to stay strong and healthy. Omegas are the compound that keeps everything smooth and soft. Omegas also keep the skin clear of breakouts. Not just acne but rashes, dry spots, and even eczema. As coconut oil doesn't clog the pores, it is a better choice for moisturizing than most commercial moisturizers. Simply take a couple drops of this home remedy and massage it into the skin once or twice a day. Whenever possible, look for unrefined, organic coconut oil. Tea tree oil also has antibacterial properties. Mix equal parts tea tree oil and water, and apply it to your skin with a cotton ball. You can leave this home remedy on under makeup or reapply it as needed during the day.

Use honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg as an acne spot treatment

It is great to have home remedies that wipe out the vast majority of your acne. However, if you suffer from acne, you know that glaring red spots often pop up at the worst possible times. Having a spot treatment product on hand can be a lifesaver before a date or other important event. To make this acne spot treatment, you need raw honey, ground cinnamon, and freshly grated nutmeg. Mix one teaspoon cinnamon with one teaspoon nutmeg and one teaspoon honey to form a thick paste. Leave on the home remedy mixture for a couple of hours. If you opt to use the mixture on your entire face, leave it on for 10-15 minutes. You can store the home remedy paste in a small container in your bathroom.
